Job Description: Summary Primary Job is to function as a Paramedic conducting patient care from an ambulance. Position is, time allowing, responsible for the daily supervision of the EMS field operations in the absence of senior management. Assures adequate zone coverage, compliance, and serves as the EMS liaison with outside responding agencies and personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide patient care
Supervise day-to-day field operations in the absence of senior management
Ensure field employees have necessary equipment to fulfill duties
Act as liaison for field staff to other departments (Training, CQI, Payroll, HR, Billing, Communications)
Prepare reports related to mechanical breakdowns, accidents, exposures, shift activities, etc.
Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards
Ensure adherence to Patient Care Protocols
Assist in employee performance evaluations and attendance monitoring
Help maintain professionalism among assigned team members
Coordinate deployment with Communications Supervisor
Make decisions about IFT, Mutual Aid, and Out-of-town trips when senior management is unavailable
Manage short-term scheduling needs
Ensure TEFs are submitted to Operations Supervisor
Deliver RTF paperwork to employees and return to administrative assistant
Ensure daily duties (truck cleaning, station tasks, equipment checks) are completed
Serve as first contact for on-job injuries, complaints, and accidents; begin investigations and forward to Operations Supervisor
Complete a daily shift report summarizing activities
Mentor new employees and students
Perform duties in alignment with financial and operational goals
Respond to call scenes and assume command during Mass Casualty Incidents until relieved
Attend regular planning meetings
Perform other duties as assigned
Demonstrate ability to lift, transfer, and maneuver patients safely in various settings
Qualifications REQUIRED Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years of EMS experience preferred
State-specific Paramedic license in good standing / NREMT certification if required
Current certifications: CPR – BLS, ACLS, PCC/PALS
Valid state-specific Drivers’ license
Successful background check and drug screening
Strong interpersonal skills and team collaboration ability
Effective English communication skills, both verbal and written
Ventilator certified every three (3) years
Successful written and practical exam completion
FEMA IS certs: (IS-100; IS-200; IS-700; IS-800)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Paramedic or in a similar role
Advanced training or certification: AMLS, PHTLS, and/or ATLS
Technological proficiency
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Knowledge of emergency medical care and procedures
Familiarity with protocols and standing orders approved by medical director
Ability to navigate local areas using maps
Skilled in handling multiple and emergent tasks simultaneously
Ability to read and understand medical terminology
Proficiency in report writing and correspondence
Experience using PCR reporting systems, email, and MDT applications
Professional representation of EMS team members and organization
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, stand, or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 180 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 300 pounds with assistance from others. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment: Due to the nature of EMS Care working conditions, employees may be exposed to inclement weather, potential hazardous conditions, psychological stressors, diseases and other illnesses. Frequent interruptions, work pressure, difficult personalities and irregularities in work schedule are expected. Employee is subject to continually changing deadlines, while performing the duties of this job. The employee will be occasionally required to attend meetings, some of which may take place outside of regular working hours.
