Job Summary

The Vice President of Finance is responsible for overseeing all divisional financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cost accounting, operational analysis, and internal controls. This role partners closely with the Division President, Land Acquisition, Sales, Marketing, and Purchasing teams to evaluate deals, optimize pricing strategies, improve operational efficiency, and drive profitability. The position plays a critical role in business planning, financial transparency, and process standardization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead annual business planning and quarterly forecasting processes

  • Analyze land acquisition deals and project viability with executive leadership

  • Prepare and review sales gross margin worksheets (sales scrubs)

  • Review monthly financial results and analyze variances to plan

  • Conduct post-acquisition project reviews to evaluate underwriting accuracy

  • Manage and update land development budgets monthly

  • Provide operational analysis to improve efficiency and identify cost savings

  • Partner with Sales and Marketing on pricing strategy (base price, lot premiums, options, incentives)

  • Collaborate with Purchasing to reduce direct costs and manage commodity exposure

  • Drive process improvement and standardization across operations

  • Oversee division financials and coordinate with Corporate Accounting

  • Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures

  • Support departments with special projects and additional assignments


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required

  • MBA or Big 4 CPA preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in residential homebuilding, land development, or construction required

  • Advanced Excel skills required

  • Knowledge of NewStar and IBM TM1 preferred

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and follow through to completion

  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships
